His Face Shone

Part Three · Transformed · 2 minute read

← The Face

“And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai... that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.”
Exodus 34:29

The Face

Moses himself was unaware of his own transformation, wist not, his face genuinely shining, visible to everyone else, while he remained personally unconscious of the change that had actually occurred. This is worth noticing directly, because genuine transformation, this story suggests, is not always something you yourself can accurately perceive or measure from the inside.

This offers real relief against whatever pressure you feel to personally verify or measure your own transformation before trusting it is genuinely real. Moses’ own shining face was entirely real, entirely visible to others, and entirely unnoticed by Moses himself, a genuine change he could not have confirmed through self-examination alone.

Notice the actual source of this shine: while he talked with him. This transformation was not achieved through Moses’ own separate effort at self-improvement, but through genuine, sustained time spent talking with God, the same beholding this whole movement has been describing, producing real, visible change as a natural byproduct.

Whatever genuine transformation may already be present in your own life, however unaware you yourself may currently be of it, trust today that sustained time spent with God, genuine talking with him, produces this kind of real change, visible to others, regardless of whether you yourself can fully perceive or measure it.

Turn Your Face

  • Release the pressure to personally verify or measure your own transformation before trusting it.
  • Spend genuine time talking with God today, trusting change as a natural byproduct, not a separate goal.
  • Consider whether others might see something in you that you yourself have not yet noticed.

Prayer

Lord, let my own face shine from genuinely talking with you, even if I myself do not fully perceive the change. Let this transformation be real, whether or not I can measure it. Amen.

Carry this today

You may not always be able to perceive your own genuine transformation. Trust it anyway.
