“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
The Body
Peter names every man, no exceptions, as having received some gift, and the instruction that follows applies universally, minister the same one to another. This third movement turns from the gathering and sharpening of the first two toward this outward orientation, gifts received specifically to be given, not merely possessed privately.
Notice good stewards of the manifold grace of God. This reframes whatever gift you have received, not as personal possession to be hoarded or used purely for private benefit, but as stewardship, something entrusted to you specifically for ministry toward others, held in trust rather than owned outright for your own sake alone.
This is worth examining against how much of your own gift is actually being ministered toward others, versus how much remains privately possessed, unused or underused, perhaps out of uncertainty about its value, or simple neglect of the stewardship this verse describes as the actual, intended purpose of every gift received.
Consider today what gift you have received, whatever it specifically is, and take one concrete step toward ministering it to another, as a good steward of grace that was never meant to remain purely private, but was given specifically to be given again, outward, toward the community and world this final movement will explore.
Strengthen the Body
- Name the specific gift you have received, whatever form it currently takes.
- Minister it to one specific person today, as a good steward, not a private owner.
- Notice any gift that has remained privately possessed rather than actively stewarded.
Prayer
Lord, let me steward well whatever gift I have received, ministering it to others, not hoarding it privately. Let every gift be given again, outward, as you intended. Amen.
Carry this today
Every gift received was given specifically to be given again.
