“Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.”
The Prayer
This entire book has walked through crying out, listening quietly, and watching persistently in prayer, and this verse turns the whole picture around one final time. Christ himself, risen and seated at the right hand of God, is described as actively, presently making intercession, praying for you right now, not merely having prayed once in the past.
This means every intercession this third movement has practiced, Moses holding up weary hands, Samuel refusing to cease, Elijah praying again, is itself modeled after something already true of Christ. He intercedes now, continuously, and your own imperfect, exhausted, sometimes faltering intercession is not the primary intercession sustaining you. His is.
This should relieve pressure from anywhere your own prayer life has felt insufficient, inconsistent, or too weak to be genuinely effectual. Your standing does not ultimately depend on the strength or consistency of your own watching and praying. It depends on Christ’s own perfect, ongoing intercession, already and always active on your behalf.
Whatever exhaustion or inconsistency has marked your own thirty days of practicing this fervent prayer, rest today in the deeper reality underneath it. Someone greater than you is already interceding, perfectly, continuously, and your own faltering efforts have never been the true foundation your standing rests on.
Watch and Pray
- Notice any pressure you have carried to sustain perfect, unfaltering prayer on your own.
- Rest today in Christ’s own ongoing intercession as the deeper foundation, not your effort.
- Thank him specifically for interceding for you even in your inconsistency.
Pray This
Lord Jesus, you are even now making intercession for me, perfectly, continuously. Let my own faltering prayer rest on that deeper foundation, not on my own consistency. Amen.
Carry this today
His intercession, not mine, is the true foundation my standing rests on.
