Arise, Anoint Him

← The Few

“And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep... And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him... Arise, anoint him: for this is he.”
1 Samuel 16:11-12

The Few

David was not even initially presented among the candidates, the youngest, keeping sheep, overlooked entirely until Samuel specifically asked, are here all thy children. This is worth noticing directly, genuine potential sometimes genuinely overlooked, not obviously visible, requiring deliberate inquiry to actually be found.

This is worth examining against however much your own sense of who is worth investing in has been shaped by obvious, visible qualification alone, overlooking whoever might be, like David, genuinely present but not initially considered, requiring this same deliberate, specific asking to actually be recognized.

Notice arise, anoint him, decisive action following this recognition, not further deliberation once the overlooked candidate was actually identified, but immediate, deliberate investment, worth holding as this whole book’s own encouragement toward decisive action once genuine potential has actually been recognized.

Consider today whether someone genuinely worth investing in has been overlooked in your own sphere, not obviously qualified by usual measures, but genuinely present, requiring this same deliberate asking Samuel modeled directly. Ask today, specifically, are here all thy children, and be willing to act decisively on what you find.

Pour Into the Few

  • Consider whether someone genuinely worth investing in has been overlooked in your own sphere.
  • Ask deliberately today about whoever might be present but not initially, obviously considered.
  • Act decisively today if genuine potential becomes clear, following Samuel’s own immediate response.

Prayer

Lord, show me whoever has been overlooked in my own sphere, genuinely present but not obviously considered. Give me eyes to ask, and courage to act decisively once I find them. Amen.

Carry this today

Genuine potential is sometimes overlooked, requiring deliberate asking to actually be found.
