Girt About With Truth

Part Two · Armed · 1 minute read

← The Foe

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth.”
Ephesians 6:14

The Battle

This first piece of armor is worth noticing directly, truth, worn specifically at the loins, the ancient image of a belt securing loose garments, enabling actual, unencumbered movement in battle. Truth, this image suggests, is not merely intellectual assent, but the actual, practical securing that makes genuine, active standing possible.

This is worth examining against however much loose, ungirded thinking has left you vulnerable, entangled, unable to actually move freely in genuine spiritual battle because truth has not been actually secured, tightly and practically, but left loose, theoretical, not actually girding anything in your ordinary, daily life.

Given yesterday’s exploration of the enemy’s primary weapon, deception, this first piece of armor is worth noticing as the direct, fitting counter. If lies are the primary attack, truth, actually secured and worn, is the actual, primary defense, not incidental, but deliberately placed first in this whole armor’s sequence.

Consider today what truth needs to be more tightly girded in your own life, secured practically rather than merely believed theoretically, enabling the kind of unencumbered, active standing this image describes, freedom to move genuinely in battle rather than entangled by loose, ungirded thinking.

Stand Firm

  • Identify one truth that has remained loose, theoretical, rather than tightly girded and practical.
  • Gird it today, deliberately, securing it practically enough to enable genuine, active movement.
  • Notice this armor’s first piece as the direct counter to the enemy’s primary weapon, deception.

Prayer

Lord, gird my loins with truth today, tightly and practically, not loosely theoretical. Let this truth secure genuine, unencumbered movement in whatever battle I face. Amen.

Carry this today

Truth, tightly girded, enables free movement. Truth left loose leaves you entangled.
