← The Foe

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
Revelation 12:11

The Battle

This verse names three specific elements together, blood of the Lamb, word of their testimony, loved not their lives unto the death, worth noticing as a comprehensive picture of overcoming, not a single tactic but this fuller combination, Christ’s own accomplished work, genuine testimony, and complete surrender.

Notice by the blood of the Lamb comes first, the actual, primary basis for this overcoming, Christ’s own sacrifice, not your own effort or strength, the foundation everything else in this verse builds upon. Whatever overcoming this whole book describes ultimately rests here, first, before any other element is added.

Notice also the word of their testimony, genuine, spoken witness, not merely private, internal victory, but overcoming that includes actual, verbal testimony, sharing what has actually been accomplished, not keeping this overcoming entirely private or unspoken.

Consider today all three elements together, the blood of the Lamb as your actual foundation, your own testimony genuinely spoken, and a willingness to hold your own life loosely, not unto the death necessarily, but genuinely surrendered, trusting this fuller combination as the actual, comprehensive pattern of genuine overcoming.

Stand Firm

  • Rest today in the blood of the Lamb as your actual, primary foundation for overcoming.
  • Speak your own testimony today, genuinely, not keeping victory entirely private and unspoken.
  • Hold your own life loosely today, surrendered, following this verse’s third, comprehensive element.

Prayer

Lord, I overcome by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of my testimony, and by holding my life loosely before you. Let this fuller pattern be genuinely mine today. Amen.

Carry this today

Genuine overcoming combines Christ’s accomplished work, spoken testimony, and surrender.
