“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
The Battle
Paul writes this in the middle of naming genuine hardships, tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, sword, real and severe, not denied or minimized, and yet, in all these things, in the actual middle of them, not after their removal, he names this striking claim, more than conquerors.
This is worth examining closely, more than conquerors, not merely surviving, not merely eventually overcoming after the hardship finally ends, but something more, a genuine, superior standing even within the actual hardship itself, through him that loved us, the specific source of this more-than-conquering status.
This closes the loop this whole final movement has traced. Christ’s own triumph already accomplished, a greater presence within than the enemy without, Satan promised bruised underfoot, overcoming through blood and testimony and surrender, victory given rather than earned, mighty weapons, comprehensive authority, all of it culminating in this final, superior standing.
Whatever tribulation, distress, or genuine hardship you currently face, receive today this final claim as your own. In all these things, in the actual middle of them, not merely after, you are more than conquerors, through him that loved us, the same love this whole book’s exploration of the enemy has ultimately been measured against and found genuinely, decisively greater.
Stand Firm
- Name honestly the actual hardship you currently face, without denying or minimizing it.
- Receive today, in the middle of it, this claim: more than conquerors, through him that loved us.
- Let this superior standing shape how you actually face today’s hardship, not merely hope for its end.
Prayer
Lord, in all the things I currently face, let me be more than a conqueror, through him that loved me. Let this be true now, in the actual middle of hardship, not only after. Amen.
Carry this today
More than conquerors, in the actual middle of hardship, not merely after it ends.
