What a Stronghold Really Is

← The Forge

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.”
2 Corinthians 10:4

The Reality

A stronghold is not a sin. It is a fortress built out of many sins, thoughts, and agreements, until the wrong thing feels normal and the right thing feels impossible. No one wakes up bound. Bondage is built one small yes at a time, until the walls are thick and you forget you laid a single brick.

Notice what Paul says the walls are made of: arguments, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. Strongholds live in the mind before they live in the body. They are lies you have believed so long they feel like facts. I will always be this way. No one would love the real me. Just once more will not matter.

This is good news. If a stronghold is built of lies, it can be pulled down by truth. You do not tear at the walls with willpower alone. You bring in a weapon willpower cannot supply: the Word of God, spoken against the specific lie holding you.

Find the lie under the behavior. The behavior is only the gate. The stronghold is the belief.

The Battle Plan

  • Write the sentence you secretly believe about yourself in your weakest area.
  • Find one verse that directly contradicts that sentence.
  • Read the verse aloud three times, replacing the lie with the truth.

Prayer

Father, I have believed lies so long they feel like walls. Show me the sentence under my sin. Hand me the truth that pulls it down, and give me the courage to speak it over myself until I believe you more than I believe the lie. Amen.

Carry this today

The stronghold is the lie. The truth is the weapon.
