The Stronghold of Anger

Part Two · Break the Strongholds · 2 minute read

← The Forge

“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil.”
Ephesians 4:26-27

The Reality

Notice what this verse does not say. It does not say never be angry. Anger itself is not the sin; there is a holy anger at injustice, at evil, at what harms the weak. The sin is what you do with it, and how long you let it live in you. Anger is a fire. In the hearth it warms a home. Loose in the house it burns it down.

The command has a time limit: do not let the sun go down on it. Why? Because anger left overnight curdles into something worse. It hardens into resentment, then bitterness, then a settled grudge, and that is where the enemy moves in. Paul says unresolved anger gives place to the devil, hands him a room in your house, a foothold he did not have to earn.

Most men handle anger in one of two failing ways. Some explode, and leave wreckage they later have to clean. Others swallow it, and let it poison them slowly from the inside while they pretend to be fine. Neither deals with the fire. One spreads it; the other buries it while it still burns.

The third way is to feel it honestly, name it, and hand it to God before nightfall. Forgive quickly, not because the wrong was small, but because you refuse to give the enemy a bedroom in your chest. Let the sun set on your anger, and it will still be there in the morning, waiting to be sin.

The Battle Plan

  • Name what you are actually angry about beneath the surface reaction.
  • Resolve or release one lingering anger before you sleep tonight.
  • Forgive one person today, out loud to God, even if they never ask.

Prayer

Lord, my anger is a fire I keep letting loose in the house. Teach me to feel it without sinning, to speak it without wounding, and to release it before dark. I will not give the enemy a room he did not earn. Amen.

Carry this today

I will not let the sun set on my anger.
