← The Forgiven

“Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me.”
Lamentations 1:12

The Wound

This verse names a specific, additional pain, worth noticing directly, not only the original wound, but this further wound, others passing by, apparently unmoved, is it nothing to you, a genuine question worth holding if your own sorrow has felt unseen or unacknowledged by those around you.

This is worth examining against however much you have expected your own genuine pain to be automatically, obviously recognized by others, rather than this verse’s own honest acknowledgment that it often is not, people genuinely passing by, unaware or unmoved, this itself a real, additional layer of the wound.

Notice which is done unto me, ownership named directly, this sorrow specifically, personally suffered, not abstract or general, worth holding as this whole book’s continued pattern, specific, honest naming rather than vague, generalized language about difficult seasons.

Whoever has passed by your own sorrow, apparently unmoved, ask today this same honest question. Is it nothing to you. Name this additional layer of pain directly, the isolation of sorrow that feels unseen, alongside whatever original wound this whole movement has been helping you name.

Choose Forgiveness

  • Name honestly if your own sorrow has felt unseen or unacknowledged by those around you.
  • Ask this question today, is it nothing to you, as genuine, honest lament, not rhetorical complaint.
  • Consider bringing your specific sorrow to at least one person who can actually see it.

Prayer

Lord, is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? Behold, and see my sorrow, which is done unto me. Let me name this isolation honestly, alongside the original wound. Amen.

Carry this today

Sorrow that feels unseen by others is itself a real, additional layer of the wound.
