I Will Do a New Thing

Part Three · Walk in It · 2 minute read

← The Fork

“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:18-19

The Path

This verse names a genuine, active work: I will do a new thing, specifically contrasted with remember ye not the former things, a needed instruction against allowing even genuinely significant former things, whatever they were, to prevent recognizing and receiving whatever new thing is actually, currently springing forth.

This is worth holding alongside this movement’s earlier caution against looking back, not as a contradiction, but as its natural extension. It is not merely that looking back is dangerous. It is that something genuinely new is actually, actively unfolding, worth your genuine attention forward, not merely worth avoiding the danger of glancing behind.

Notice now it shall spring forth, present tense, active, ongoing, not a distant future promise but a current, unfolding reality, shall ye not know it, suggesting genuine attentiveness is required to actually perceive this new thing already, currently springing forth, rather than remaining fixed on former things no longer the actual, current reality.

Whatever new thing may currently be springing forth in your own walking forward, ask today whether you have genuinely noticed it, or whether attention remains fixed on former things, however significant they once genuinely were. Watch, today, specifically, for the way in the wilderness, the rivers in the desert, he is actually, currently making.

Walk the Path

  • Consider what new thing might currently be springing forth in your own life, actively.
  • Watch for it today, specifically, rather than remaining fixed on former things.
  • Thank God today for the way in the wilderness, the rivers in the desert, he is actually making.

Prayer

Lord, you are doing a new thing. Let me perceive it, springing forth, now, rather than remaining fixed on former things. Make your way in my own wilderness, and rivers in my desert. Amen.

Carry this today

Something new is actively springing forth. Watch for it, do not remain fixed on former things.
