He Healeth the Broken in Heart

Part Two · the Refuge · 1 minute read

← The Fortress

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”
Psalm 147:3

The Shelter

This verse pairs two specific actions: healeth and bindeth up. The first addresses the internal reality of a broken heart directly. The second addresses the practical, ongoing tending a wound requires, not a single instant of healing but continued binding, the kind of care a wound needs across the actual time it takes to close.

This matters because grief rarely heals in a single decisive moment, however much that might be preferred. It heals, more often, the way a physical wound heals, with ongoing tending, repeated dressing, patience across a real timeline. This verse describes God engaged in exactly that kind of sustained, attentive care, not a single touch and then absence.

Notice the plural: their wounds. This is not describing one universal wound treated identically for everyone. It is describing wounds, individual and specific, each bound according to its own particular shape. Your grief has its own specific contours, and this verse describes a healer who attends to that specificity, not a generic treatment applied without attention to your actual wound.

Whatever wound you are carrying today, trust that healing here is described as both real and ongoing, both healeth and bindeth up, present tense, active, attentive to the specific shape of what has broken in you.

Take Refuge

  • Name the specific wound you are currently carrying, as precisely as you can.
  • Trust that healing is both real and ongoing, not a single moment you have missed.
  • Receive today’s specific tending, whatever small form it takes, without demanding instant closure.

Prayer

Lord, you heal the broken in heart and bind up their wounds, specifically, attentively. Bind up my wound today, in whatever form your care actually takes. Amen.

Carry this today

Healing is ongoing tending, not a single missed moment.
