Ye Run Every Man Unto His Own House

Part Two · Tested · 1 minute read

← The Flame

“Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.”
Haggai 1:9

The Flame

God names a specific pattern here worth examining directly, mine house that is waste, contrasted with ye run every man unto his own house, genuine attention and resources flowing readily toward personal, private concerns, while genuine devotion to God’s own house, his own priorities, remains neglected, waste.

This is worth holding against however much your own energy and attention have flowed readily toward your own house, your own comfort, your own priorities, while whatever this verse’s own equivalent of God’s house represents in your life, genuine devotion, genuine spiritual priority, has remained comparatively neglected, waste.

Notice ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little, the actual, disappointing result of this misdirected priority, suggesting the many things pursued in your own house have not even produced the satisfaction they seemed to promise, this verse naming a genuine, ironic emptiness even in successfully pursued personal priorities.

Consider today honestly whether your own energy has flowed readily toward your own house while genuine devotion has remained neglected, and consider what it would actually mean to redirect some of this energy, deliberately, back toward the house this verse names as having been, quietly, allowed to waste.

Tend the Flame

  • Examine honestly whether your own energy flows more readily toward personal priorities than devotion.
  • Redirect one specific resource today, deliberately, toward whatever has been left comparatively waste.
  • Notice any emptiness in successfully pursued personal priorities that this verse names directly.

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for running every man unto my own house, while your house has remained waste. Let me redirect my energy today, deliberately, back toward genuine devotion. Amen.

Carry this today

Energy readily flowing toward personal priorities can leave genuine devotion comparatively waste.
