“For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”
With the Shepherd
Notice the striking image here: the Lamb shall feed them. Not merely the shepherd, but the Lamb, the very title used elsewhere for the one who was slain, now pictured in the midst of the throne, still, remarkably, in the posture of feeding and leading his flock. The shepherd who laid down his life is the same one who leads eternally.
This is the final destination this whole shepherding story has been pointing toward, not a temporary arrangement for this present life alone, but an eternal reality: living fountains of waters, not still waters merely calming fear, but living, permanent, endless provision. And, remarkably, God himself wiping away every tear.
This closing picture reframes every valley, every wandering, every difficulty this book has named across thirty days. None of it is the final chapter. The final chapter is a Lamb who still feeds, waters that never run dry, and every tear personally wiped away by the hand of God himself, not merely permitted to fade with time.
Whatever grief or tears you are carrying today, they are not being ignored or dismissed. They are named specifically in this promise, seen by God, and destined to be wiped away, personally, by the same hand that has shepherded you through every valley before this one.
