Run With Patience

Part Three · Walk in It · 1 minute read

← The Fork

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”
Hebrews 12:1-2

The Path

This verse describes the actual walking this final movement is exploring using race imagery, and it is worth noticing patience specifically named alongside running, not a brief sprint requiring only initial burst of energy, but patience, endurance across whatever actual distance the race that is set before us genuinely requires.

Notice lay aside every weight, an active discipline required for this patient running, whatever encumbrances, however seemingly minor, that might otherwise slow or distract from the actual, ongoing race. This is not a single decision made once at the starting line, but ongoing, active discipline required across the whole distance still ahead.

Notice also looking unto Jesus, the specific focal point named for this patient endurance, not looking back at what has been left behind, the previous movement’s warning, but looking forward and upward, toward Jesus specifically, the author and finisher, both the origin and the actual completion of this race genuinely trusted to him.

Whatever patient endurance your own walking forward now requires, lay aside whatever weight currently threatens to slow you, and fix your own looking specifically on Jesus, trusting him as both author and finisher, the one who both began this race in you and will genuinely, faithfully bring it to its actual completion.

Walk the Path

  • Identify one specific weight currently threatening to slow your own patient running.
  • Lay it aside today, deliberately, as an active discipline, not a one-time decision.
  • Fix your looking specifically on Jesus today, not backward, but forward, toward him.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, let me lay aside every weight, and run with patience the race set before me, looking unto you, the author and finisher, trusting you with both. Amen.

Carry this today

Patient endurance requires ongoing discipline, and a fixed, forward focus on Jesus.
