“And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.”
The Tree
This promise names something worth real relief: children taught of the LORD, not merely taught by their parents alone. This third movement, turning toward the actual harvest faithful parenting produces, opens with a needed reminder that the deepest teaching was never solely your own responsibility to provide, single-handedly, from your own limited resources.
This does not diminish the real, necessary work the first two movements have described, diligent teaching, patient correction, consistent modeling. It relocates the ultimate source. You are a genuine, necessary instrument, but the LORD himself is named here as the actual teacher, working in ways and through means that extend well beyond your own direct instruction.
This should relieve some of the pressure that faithful parenting can otherwise carry, as if every gap in your own teaching represents a permanent, unfillable gap in your child’s formation. The LORD himself is teaching, alongside you, sometimes despite your own limitations, working toward the great peace this verse promises as the actual outcome.
Whatever gaps you are aware of in your own teaching, however incomplete you know your own instruction has been, release some of that weight today. All thy children shall be taught of the LORD is not a replacement for your own faithful effort, but it is a genuine promise your own effort was never meant to carry entirely alone.
Tend the Tree
- Name one gap in your own teaching you have been carrying as unfillable pressure.
- Release some of that weight today, trusting the LORD’s own teaching alongside your own.
- Thank God today that your children’s formation was never solely dependent on you alone.
Prayer
Lord, thank you that my children are taught of you, not solely by my own limited effort. Fill the gaps in my own teaching, and bring the great peace you have promised. Amen.
Carry this today
Your children’s teacher was never only you.
