← The Fruit

“For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment.”
Genesis 18:19

The Tree

God speaks these words about Abraham, and notice what he actually says: I know him, that he will command his children. This is not a hope God is uncertain about, but a settled confidence, grounded in genuinely knowing Abraham’s character, that he will actually follow through on commanding his household in the way of the LORD.

This is worth applying to your own reputation, quietly built over time, regarding whether you actually follow through on the spiritual leadership of your own household. Not merely intending to, someday, when circumstances allow, but actually, consistently commanding your children and household in the way of the LORD, the kind of follow-through God could confidently predict.

Notice the specific outcome named: to do justice and judgment. Abraham’s household instruction was not aimed merely at private religious devotion, but at actual character, justice and judgment, righteousness expressed practically, in how the household actually treated others, not only in what they privately believed.

Consider today whether your own follow-through in leading your household would earn this same confident prediction God made about Abraham. Not perfection, but genuine, consistent commanding of your children toward the way of the LORD, aimed at real justice and righteousness, not merely private belief.

Tend the Tree

  • Examine honestly whether your household leadership is consistent enough to be predictable.
  • Command your household today in one specific, concrete way, following through genuinely.
  • Aim that instruction at real justice and righteousness, not merely private religious feeling.

Prayer

Lord, let me be known the way Abraham was known, someone who will actually command his household after him. Give me consistent follow-through, not merely good intentions. Amen.

Carry this today

Known for actual follow-through, not merely good intentions.
